A new report by the American Clean Power Association highlights Iowa's continued dominance in clean energy leadership. The state boasts the highest share of electricity generation from renewables at 60.6%, contributing significantly to the nation's record year for clean power installations.
This clean energy boom translates to economic benefits across the state. Ron Corbett, representing the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, emphasizes the role of clean power in bolstering local economies and communities.
Nationally, clean power is experiencing rapid growth with over 120 new manufacturing facilities or expansions. Notably, Iowa's TPI Composites in Newton has reopened with a wind turbine blade production contract for GE Renewables. Similarly, Siemens Gamesa in Fort Madison has rebooted production with a new, longer-lasting wind turbine blade design. These facilities, along with others nationwide, represent substantial capital investment and thousands of new manufacturing jobs.
Iowa's clean energy leadership extends to veteran employment. Beth Townsend, from Iowa Workforce Development, highlights the industry's commitment to hiring veterans at a significantly higher rate than the average workforce.
The state's top ranking in clean energy production translates to tangible benefits for Iowans. Over $61 million in tax revenue from clean energy projects supports schools, infrastructure, and emergency management. Additionally, Iowa boasts a clean energy workforce of over 5,500 and provides over $73 million annually in land-lease payments to farmers and landowners.
Randy Dreher, an Audubon County farmer, emphasizes the positive impact of clean energy projects on rural communities. He highlights the influx of tax revenue that supports public schools, revitalization efforts, and emergency services.
The report's findings paint a clear picture: Iowa's commitment to clean energy is driving a bright and prosperous future for the state. The full report can be viewed by clicking here.
