Iowa farmers boost income with acres insights

By Andi Anderson

Iowa farmers looking to diversify and explore new revenue streams can attend the 4th annual Acres of Opportunity Conference, hosted by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF). The event will take place on February 15 at the Bien VenU Event Center in Cedar Falls.

The conference aims to help farmers, both new and experienced, navigate the challenges of today’s agricultural economy by exploring innovative niche markets.

With high operational costs and significant investments in land and equipment, niche farming opportunities offer a practical way to complement existing farms and improve profitability.

Farmers attending the event will benefit from expert-led sessions covering essential topics such as loan programs, farm insurance, legal concerns, e-commerce strategies, and grant opportunities.

Attendees will also learn from their peers who have successfully diversified their operations, gaining insights into creating new income streams and innovative business models.

The conference features two inspiring keynote speakers. Natalie Kovarik, a fourth-generation cattle rancher and co-founder of the Discover Ag podcast, will share her experiences in bold business decision-making. Jerry Carroll, a farmer and national comedian, will lighten the day with humorous and relatable stories about farm life.

Amanda Van Steenwyk, IFBF’s farm business development manager, emphasizes the value of the conference, saying, “This event inspires farmers to see what’s possible and provides resources to support entrepreneurial ventures.”

Registration is free for Farm Bureau members, while non-members can join for $60 or less to attend. The registration deadline is February 3, and spots are limited. For more details or to view the full agenda, visit www.iowafarmbureau.com/acres.

The Acres of Opportunity Conference is an excellent platform for farmers to gain knowledge, network, and explore sustainable practices that can transform their farming operations.
