Iowa farmers now have access to the Nitrogen Fertilizer Application Consultation Tool (N-FACT), a free online resource designed to help corn growers make informed nitrogen application decisions. Encouraged by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, the tool aims to improve productivity, manage input costs, and support environmental sustainability.
A Data-Driven Approach to Fertilizer Use
Developed by the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative at Iowa State University (ISU), N-FACT is built on thousands of data points collected from hundreds of field trials across different regions of Iowa. Farmers input field-specific variables, and the tool recommends the most efficient nitrogen rates for their crops.
By using N-FACT, growers can optimize fertilizer use, reducing excess nitrogen application, lowering costs, and minimizing environmental impact while maintaining high crop yields.
Launched at the Iowa Ag Expo
N-FACT made its debut at the Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines, where it was introduced to farmers, agronomists, and industry experts. The tool is expected to be a valuable resource for corn growers aiming to improve fertilizer management strategies.
How Farmers Can Benefit
- Better crop management through data-driven nitrogen application
- Cost savings by avoiding unnecessary fertilizer use
- Environmental benefits with reduced nitrogen runoff
- Region-specific recommendations based on real field trials
Farmers across Iowa are encouraged to explore N-FACT and integrate it into their nutrient management plans for the growing season. This free tool ensures that farmers can make smarter, more sustainable fertilizer decisions with scientific backing from Iowa State University.
