Iowa Learning Farms, in collaboration with Iowa State University Extension and the Conservation Learning Group, will host a Conservation On Tap event on March 20 at Rock River Brewing Company in Rock Rapids.
The event, held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., offers a casual setting for farmers, landowners, and urban residents to discuss conservation challenges and water quality concerns.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in open conversations with experts, ask questions, and share experiences related to conservation practices.
The event is designed to foster community discussions without formal presentations or agendas, allowing participants to learn from each other. Networking opportunities will be available after the discussions.
Liz Ripley, a conservation and cover crop outreach specialist with Iowa Learning Farms, emphasized the event’s goal of bringing people together. “We want to encourage farmers, landowners, and residents to talk about conservation challenges, what keeps them up at night, and what they want to learn more about,” she said.
The discussion will be hosted by Matt Helmers, Director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center, and Mark Licht, Iowa State University Extension Cropping Systems Specialist. Dan Vander Zee, owner of Rock River Brewing Company, will also join the conversation, highlighting the connection between water quality and brewing.
To ensure adequate space and food, attendees are encouraged to RSVP by March 23 by calling 515-294-5429 or emailing ilf@iastate.edu. The event provides a unique opportunity for farmers and landowners to explore conservation efforts while enjoying a relaxed gathering with peers and experts.
