Communities May Apply for ¡Salir Adelante! Mini-grants

Mini-grants are available to help four more Iowa communities implement "¡Salir Adelante! Caminos a Nuestro Futuro (Pathways for Our Future)" with local Latinx youth and their families. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach created this culturally tailored, research-based and evidence-informed curriculum that promotes career and college readiness.

Four additional $1,000 mini-grants have been provided through a gift from GreenState Credit Union, said Kimberly Greder, a professor in human development and family studies and a family wellbeing extension state specialist. Teams that have participated in a ¡Salir Adelante! training are eligible to apply. Applications are due Nov. 15 and funding will be awarded by Dec 31, 2022.

In May Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Perry, Storm Lake, Marshall County and Washington County were selected for the first round of funding, July 2022 through June 2023.

ISU Extension and Outreach delivers ¡Salir Adelante! in partnership with community-based organizations and volunteers. The curriculum affirms and builds upon knowledge, experiences, and strengths of Latinx families and connects them to information and resources to reach their goals.

Already more than 100 ISU Extension and Outreach staff and community partners across 20 communities are helping Latinx youth and their families reach their hopes and dreams for education through this educational program.
