By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University’s Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm will host its annual Spring Field Day on Wednesday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, starting at the Borlaug Learning Center Headquarters near Nashua.

The day will begin with a keynote speech from Mike Naig, Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture. His presentation will highlight accelerating conservation efforts through partnerships and cost-share programs, offering insights into Iowa’s future in sustainable farming.

Other expert speakers include Richard Roth, an extension nitrogen science specialist from ISU, who will share nitrogen management strategies for the 2025 growing season. Following him, Wes Everman, an ISU extension weed management expert, will discuss weed control plans for 2025, with practical advice for farmers.

A complimentary lunch will be served at noon, sponsored by Innovative Ag Services.

Attendees can earn Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) continuing education credits, with one nutrient management and one pest management credit available.

To attend the event and help organizers plan for meals, participants are encouraged to RSVP by Monday, June 16 by emailing the Northeast Iowa Research Association at neira@iastate.edu.

Directions: From Nashua, take Highway 218 (Exit 220) to County Road B60, head west for 1.1 miles to Windfall Avenue, go south for 1 mile to 290th Street, then head east for 0.2 miles to reach the farm.

For more information, contact Terry Basol at 641-426-6801 or Josh Michel at 563-581-7828.

This event is a great opportunity for farmers, ag professionals, and the community to connect, learn, and prepare for the next growing season.
