The Iowa Beef Center’s Feedlot Short Course is returning this summer from July 29 to 31. Designed for cattle producers, the three-day event focuses on technical and practical feedlot operations.
Organized by Erika Lundy-Woolfolk, beef specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the course offers both hands-on and classroom-style learning.
Since its launch, the course has positively impacted about 12 million cattle and brought a $90 million benefit to the feedlot industry in Iowa and beyond. Participants from 12 states and three countries have previously attended.
Limited to just 30 participants, the program provides personalized attention and plenty of interaction with leading experts. This year’s event includes sessions by top specialists such as Dr. Robbi Pritchard, Dr. Dan Loy, Dr. Terry Engelken, and Dr. AJ Tarpoff.
Training will take place at the Iowa State Beef Nutrition Farm near Ames and at Provision Cattle Company near Nevada, Iowa. The program begins at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, and ends at noon on Thursday, July 31.
The $375 registration fee includes meals, breaks, and course materials. Registration closes at midnight on July 18 or when the 30-person limit is reached. All participants must register online.
Topics covered in the course include:
- Bunk management and starting cattle on feed
