All things beef- A workshop series for cattle nutrition and management

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting the "All Things Beef" workshop series, focusing on cattle nutrition and management. The upcoming session on Dec. 5 in Afton is set to provide cattle producers with crucial information on feeding strategies, especially in the context of rising costs.

Beef Specialist Chris Clark, along with Jodi Hitz from Union County and Dawn Dugan from Ringgold County, have collaborated to create a series that caters to the needs of local producers. The Dec. 5 sessions will specifically address developing rations to meet cattle's nutritional needs, efficiently utilizing forage supplies, and identifying cost-effective feeding options.

The series, free of charge, will be held at the Afton Community Center. Participants are encouraged to pre-register to assist in the planning of a light supper provided at each session.

The workshop aims to be both informative and practical, with future sessions covering topics like calving management on Jan. 9, 2024, and preparing pastures for spring on Feb. 5, 2024. Each session runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

For those interested in attending, the community center is located at 240 N Douglas in Afton. Preregistration can be completed by contacting the Ringgold County Extension Office at 641-464-3333, the Union County Extension Office at 641-782-8426, or by emailing jhitz@iastate.edu
