Agronomy Workshop Series Empowers Women in Franklin County

Agronomy Workshop Series Empowers Women in Franklin County

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is organizing a unique educational opportunity for women interested in agriculture. “Agronomy in the Field” is a hands-on, multi-session workshop series aimed at women landowners, farmers, conservationists, and others who want to strengthen their agronomic knowledge.

The workshop will take place throughout the 2025 growing season. It will offer practical, in-field learning experiences that cover real-time crop conditions and issues. These sessions are designed to help participants understand crop inputs, conservation practices, and improve communication with their farming partners.

“Agronomy in the Field aims to strengthen agronomic skills for women that allow for better decision-making, provide a better understanding of inputs for crop production, showcase various conservation practices and increase confidence in communication with farming partners,” said Angela Rieck-Hinz, north central field agronomist at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Workshops are scheduled for April 29, May 27, June 24, July 22, August 26, and September 9. Each session will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at a farm located east of Hampton in Franklin County. Detailed session information will be emailed to those who register.

The registration fee is $50 for regular participants and $30 for high school or college students. This cost includes all educational materials and workshop resources.

Interested participants can register by contacting Shonda Tranel at the ISU Extension and Outreach Hardin County office via phone at 641-648-4850, ext. 2, or by emailing stranel@iastate.edu.

This initiative is made possible through the support of Hardin, Franklin, Butler, and Grundy County extension offices. Additional local support comes from Hillcrest Grain Company and farm hosts Shonda and Keith Tranel.

This program is a step forward in empowering women in agriculture through hands-on learning and community support.
