Agriculture Advocacy Thrives in Digital Space

Agriculture Advocacy Thrives in Digital Space

By Andi Anderson

Raine Wheeler, a dedicated member of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter in Iowa, is gaining attention for her efforts in agricultural advocacy. Unlike many others in the field, she did not grow up in an agricultural background. Instead, she chose to learn about agriculture and promote it through her own interest and passion.

Wheeler uses social media as a powerful tool to connect with people and educate them about agriculture. She manages her own advocacy page, where she shares information about farming and explains why agriculture is important in daily life. Her work helps both FFA members and local community members understand farming practices and the role agriculture plays in society.

In addition to social media, Wheeler hosts her own podcast. Through this platform, she invites members of her local FFA chapter to share their experiences and discuss how agriculture has impacted their lives. This initiative allows listeners to learn from real-life stories and connect with agricultural topics in an engaging way.

Wheeler started her advocacy journey with a personal goal. She wanted to educate her family, who live internationally, about agriculture in the United States. Over time, her efforts expanded, and she began connecting with people from different backgrounds, including members at the national FFA level. Her work shows how communication can bring people together and increase awareness about farming.

Another important area of Wheeler’s work is spreading awareness about farmers’ well-being, especially mental health. She has worked to inform her community about the challenges farmers face and the importance of supporting them. She also creates simple fact sheets that provide updates on current agricultural trends and issues, making it easy for others to understand important topics.

Looking ahead, Wheeler plans to continue her education by studying agricultural communications in college. She aims to further develop her skills and continue advocating for agriculture. She also intends to keep running her podcast and social media platforms throughout high school.

Wheeler’s journey highlights how passion and dedication can create meaningful change. Her efforts show that anyone, regardless of background, can contribute to the future of agriculture by educating others and building strong community connections.
