Iowa's RFIP Board Grants Record $3.4 Million to Expand E15 Availability
Iowa Ag Connection - 02/08/2024

Iowa's Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP) Board marked a milestone, approving over $3.4 million in funding during its recent quarterly meeting. A record-breaking 73 ethanol cost-share projects and one biodiesel terminal project were given the green light, set to transform Iowa's fuel infrastructure. This boost aims to increase Iowans' access to lower-cost, cleaner-burning E15.

The approved projects span 38 counties, including Adair, Black Hawk, Polk, and more. In January alone, 74 projects received grants, and in October 2023, 10 additional awards totaling $442,300 were granted in 8 different counties.

With $5,483,555.57 allocated for this fiscal year, the RFIP program continues to drive biofuels momentum. Key funding breakdown includes $3,998,803 for 87 E15 projects, supporting Iowa's record ethanol production and infrastructure investment.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig highlighted the importance of this program in supporting rural jobs, creating markets for farmers, and ensuring energy security. He encouraged fuel retailers to seize the opportunity for cost-share assistance, emphasizing the program's impact on saving money at the pump.

As the RFIP Board gears up for its spring 2024 meeting, the program's success, with over $80 million invested by the state and $240 million by private industry, solidifies its role in shaping Iowa's renewable energy landscape.
