Iowa's Pulled Pork Madness - March Showdown for Best BBQ
Iowa Ag Connection - 02/26/2024

The Iowa Pork Producers Association's seventh annual Pulled Pork Madness competition is set to take center stage in March. This bracket-style tournament, inspired by NCAA basketball tournaments, aims to showcase the top barbeque joints in Iowa. The competition encourages Iowans to explore different restaurants serving delicious pork across the state.

Hannah Spurr, the IPPA consumer outreach director, highlighted that the contest is a great way to introduce people to various restaurants and promote the diverse range of delicious pork dishes available. The competition's popularity is evident in the numerous nominations received, reflecting the high quality of barbeque around the state.

Spurr noted that winners from previous years have demonstrated unique and distinctive flavors, with each restaurant bringing its own twist to pulled pork. The competition embraces creativity, from serving on traditional buns to Texas Toast and experimenting with different toppings, while ensuring that the star of the show is the pork itself.

Nominations for the best pulled pork will be accepted from March 1 to March 8. The Sweet 16 will be determined based on regions, followed by head-to-head voting to progress through the tournament rounds. The ultimate champion will be announced on March 29 after four rounds of voting. This event not only celebrates the culinary talent in Iowa but also encourages residents to explore and support local eateries offering exceptional pulled pork dishes.
