Wine Wednesday Series Returns in Iowa

The popular "Wine Wednesday" series of educational events is returning this fall and offers an opportunity for everyone from seasoned sippers to those who just want to know more about wine.

pouring wine.The first Wine Wednesday Workshop is Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Prairie Crossing Vineyard & Winery with Aude Watrelot, assistant professor and extension enology specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

With West Pottawattamie County being home to several wineries, this is a great way to find out more about the process of winemaking, grape growing, the principles of wine tasting and sensory evaluation, and what makes Iowa wine so unique.

Another event is planned for Oct. 20, in Dubuque, at Park Farm Winery from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Both events are open to the public and are designed for anyone with an interest in wine. The workshops are free but registration is required and spots are limited.

Presenters will address:

- how grapes are grown.

- which grapes are used to make different types of wine.

- unique processes used to make each type of wine from white to red.

- meeting with local winemakers.
