Iowa State University’s Northern Research and Demonstration Farm is set to organize a summer field day that will provide farmers, students, and agricultural professionals with valuable knowledge and hands-on learning experiences. The event will take place in the morning and continue until early afternoon at the research farm located in Kanawha.
The program will begin with welcome remarks from key agricultural leaders associated with the research farm. Their introduction will highlight the importance of agricultural research and the role of farmers in adopting improved practices. This opening session will set the stage for a series of educational field tours designed to address current farming challenges.
The field day will include guided tours led by experienced agronomists and experts. Participants will learn about oat production, especially mid- to late-season management practices that help improve crop quality and yield. As oat farming is increasing in the region, this topic is expected to be highly useful for local growers.
Another important session will demonstrate herbicide injury in crops. This practical demonstration will help farmers understand how herbicides affect plant health and how to avoid damage while maintaining effective weed control. Learning from real field examples will make it easier for participants to apply these practices on their farms.
Additionally, experts will discuss current growing season conditions and their effects on crop growth and development. This includes challenges such as delayed planting, replanting decisions, and changing weather conditions. Farmers will gain a better understanding of how to respond to these issues and make informed decisions.
The event also provides a valuable opportunity for direct interaction with specialists. Farmers and landowners can ask questions and receive guidance based on their specific concerns. This exchange of knowledge is important for improving farm productivity and solving real time problems.
The field day is open to the public, free of cost, and includes refreshments and lunch. Participants are encouraged to register in advance. Certified Crop Adviser credits will also be available, making the event beneficial for both learning and professional development.
