USDA Rural Development has updated its eligibility maps for Iowa, removing North Liberty from the list of eligible areas for its housing programs. The changes take effect on October 1, 2023.
The updated maps are available on the USDA Rural Development website. To see if your area is still eligible, you can click on the program you are interested in, such as "Single Family Housing Direct," and then click on "Proposed Eligibility Areas" from the menu options.
The changes to the eligibility maps are based on the 2020 decennial United States census. The census data showed that North Liberty has grown significantly in recent years, and it no longer meets the criteria for rural eligibility.
Homeowners in North Liberty who are currently receiving assistance from USDA Rural Development may be able to continue receiving assistance under a grandfathering provision. However, new applicants will not be eligible for assistance in this area.
If you have any questions about the changes to the eligibility maps, you can contact the Iowa State Office Rural Development Housing Program Staff at 515-284-4462.
