During the recent House Agriculture Committee “Member Day” hearing, Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) highlighted concerns regarding the repercussions of California’s Proposition 12 on pork producers. She emphasized the potential disruption of interstate goods movement due to Prop 12 and a similar Massachusetts law.
Hinson proposed the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act as a solution to safeguard Iowa farmers’ access to interstate commerce while respecting California's regulatory rights. Expressing her invitation to activists advocating such legislation, she welcomed them to witness firsthand how Iowa farmers manage their farms in harmony with the environment.
Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA-15) reiterated the bipartisan objective of the upcoming Farm Bill, aiming for effectiveness and inclusivity. He stressed the importance of listening to voices beyond Washington, recognizing members’ representation of their constituents' concerns.
