Aaron Juergens, a pig farmer from Carroll County, Iowa, has been elected as the new president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). He assumed the role during the organization's annual meeting in Des Moines on January 21st.
Juergens succeeds Matt Gent, who served as president in 2024. In his new role, Juergens will lead the IPPA board of directors and advocate for the interests of Iowa's pork producers. “It’s an incredible honor to lead this outstanding organization and work alongside such a dedicated board of directors,” said Juergens. “This group has always been a source of inspiration for me. I never imagined being elected to serve on the board, let alone as president. It’s truly overwhelming.”
Juergens has been an active member of the IPPA since 2020, serving on various committees and participating in leadership programs. He has also been recognized for his environmental stewardship and his commitment to community service.
Beyond his agricultural pursuits, Juergens is involved in local organizations such as the Carroll County Farm Bureau and the Rotary Club of Carroll. He holds a business management degree from Loras College.
- During the annual meeting, the delegates passed several resolutions, including:
- Addressing Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) requirements: IPPA will urge the USDA to reconsider COOL requirements for pork imported from Canada, which the association believes unfairly burdens the pork industry.
- Enhancing participation in the Swine Health Improvement Plan (US SHIP): IPPA will work with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship to increase participation in US SHIP, a program aimed at improving the health of the swine herd.
- Developing a response plan for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS): IPPA will collaborate with the National Pork Board and veterinary colleges to develop strategies for managing PRRS outbreaks.
The delegates also passed a resolution recognizing Matt Gent for his outstanding leadership as IPPA president in 2024.
