Farmers and agricultural professionals in southeastern Iowa have an opportunity to attend the Summer Field Day at Iowa State University’s Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm on June 17, 2025. This event is hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach along with the Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association.
This year’s field day introduces a new format by combining traditional stops with a guided farm tour that highlights ongoing research projects at the farm. Attendees will hear from experts on important agricultural topics affecting Iowa farmers today.
The program includes several featured sessions. Cody Schneider, the farm superintendent, will provide a research farm update and lead the farm tour. Wes Everman, an extension weed scientist at Iowa State, will present on herbicides and weed management.
Fungicide topics and application methods will be covered by Doug Houser, a digital agriculture extension specialist, and Jose Gonzalez, a plant pathology research scientist.
Rebecca Vittetoe, field agronomist with ISU Extension, described the event as a great way for farmers, landowners, and agricultural retailers to engage with specialists and discuss current agricultural challenges in the region.
Check-in will begin at 1 p.m., and the event will officially start at 1:30 p.m. The Summer Field Day is open to the public and is free of charge. It is supported by ISU Extension and Outreach, the Iowa State University Research Farms, and the Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association.
Certified Crop Advisers (CCA) attending the event can earn continuing education units (CEUs): 1.0 for pest management, 0.5 for crop management, and 0.5 for nutrient management.
The Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm is located at 3115 Louisa-Washington Road in Crawfordsville, Iowa. Directions include traveling 1.75 miles south of Crawfordsville on U.S. Highway 218, then two miles east on County Road G-62, and finally three-quarters of a mile north. Signage will guide visitors to the farm location.
