Iowa's agricultural landscape is set for an upgrade with the latest ICM News article highlighting the updated list of soybean cyst nematode (SCN)-resistant varieties. For the 2024 planting season, Iowa farmers have a robust selection of 866 SCN-resistant varieties, including 87 with Peking SCN resistance, promising better control and increased yields, especially in fields previously dominated by varieties with PI 88788 resistance.
The guide, available online, categorizes these varieties into maturity groups 0-1, 2, and 3, each with its own list of Peking SCN-resistant options. The list features five soybean blends that combine the strengths of PI 88788 and Peking SCN resistance.
An essential aspect for farmers to consider is the herbicide resistance and iron deficiency chlorosis tolerance of these varieties. Detailed information on these characteristics can be found in the ISU Extension publication, provided by the seed companies offering these varieties.
It's crucial to note that variety availability can vary annually, making this updated list a valuable resource for farmers planning their next crop.
The guide not only assists in selecting the right soybean variety but also plays a crucial role in managing SCN resistance, a key factor in ensuring sustainable and profitable soybean farming in Iowa.
