Iowa State University is hosting a special event, Hay Day, at McNay Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm. This event promises to showcase the latest innovations in haymaking technology and livestock feeding equipment.
On June 6, farmers and interested individuals will have the opportunity to witness in-field demonstrations of modern mowing, tedding, raking, and baling equipment. These demonstrations will be complemented by insightful presentations from industry experts, including Shelby Gruss, an extension forage specialist at Iowa State.
Attendees can expect to learn about optimizing forage production and improving hay quality, vital aspects of livestock farming. The event will feature a range of equipment provided by local dealerships, offering a variety of options from different brands.
Hosted at McNay Memorial Research Farm, located at 45249 170th Ave., Chariton, Hay Day aims to educate both seasoned farmers and newcomers alike. Clarabell Probasco, an ISU Extension and Outreach field agronomist, emphasized the event's role in fostering connections between farmers and equipment suppliers.
Chris Clark, a beef specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, highlighted the importance of hay quality for livestock production and expressed optimism that attendees would gain valuable insights into improving their hay production practices.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with participating equipment dealerships including Belzer Equipment Inc., Brian’s Farm Supply, Rueter’s Equipment, Van Wall Equipment, and Vetter Equipment. A complimentary lunch, prepared by the Lucas County Cattlemen, will be provided.
While pre-registration is encouraged, on-site registration will be available. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been scheduled for June 11. For more information, individuals can contact Chris Clark at 712-250-0070 or Clarabell Probasco at 641-208-5435.
