Iowa Forum Supports Women in Farmland Management Growth

By Andi Anderson

Women involved in agriculture are invited to attend the Women Managing Farmland Forum in Madrid, Iowa, on Tuesday, September 16. This special in-person event welcomes women landowners, farmers, and agricultural decision makers who want to grow their knowledge and connect with others who care about the land.

The forum runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Iowa Arboretum in Madrid. Optional local tours are offered from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. for participants who wish to explore the area before the main sessions begin. Registration costs $25, and organizers encourage attendees to bring a friend for a full day of learning and inspiration.

Led by experts, the program includes sessions on farmland leasing, conservation practices, and farm transition planning. These topics help participants understand how to manage farmland responsibly while preparing for future changes in ownership or operation. Presenters will share practical advice and real examples to guide decision making and long-term planning.

“This forum provides a welcoming and informative space for women to learn more about managing farmland and shaping its future,” says Madeline Schultz, program manager for Women in Ag with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. She notes that the event is also a chance to build friendships and exchange ideas with others facing similar challenges and goals.

Throughout the day, participants will have many opportunities to network, ask questions, and share personal experiences. The mix of educational sessions and peer conversations is designed to help women strengthen their confidence in farmland management.

By attending the Women Managing Farmland Forum, women gain valuable tools, meet supportive peers, and discover practical strategies to preserve and enhance their farmland for future generations. This event highlights the important role women play in shaping the future of agriculture.
