Iowa Farm and Food Conference Celebrates Ten Years in Waterloo

By Andi Anderson

The Iowa Farm and Food Conference will take place June 11–12, 2026, at the Waterloo Center for the Arts in Waterloo, Iowa. This biennial event brings together professionals from across the food system to support collaboration, strengthen community networks and inspire innovation.

The 2026 event also marks the conference’s 10th anniversary, reflecting a decade of growth and statewide engagement.

Previously known as the Community Food Systems + Farm to School and Early Care Conference, the event has expanded its reach and now serves individuals working in all areas of the food system.

This year’s theme, “Futuring our Food System,” invites participants to imagine bold, forward‑thinking possibilities for Iowa’s food future. The theme encourages creative, systematic and connected approaches that can strengthen local food networks and improve long-term resilience.

The conference begins on Thursday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m., and continues Friday, June 12, starting at 8:00 a.m. Attendees will have opportunities to learn from experts, explore community‑driven initiatives, and collaborate with peers who share a commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable food system. The event engages participants from schools, farms, local businesses, nonprofits, public agencies and community organizations.

A Call for Proposals invites individuals, businesses and organizations from all food sectors to submit ideas for conference sessions. Presenters are encouraged to share successful programs, research, community projects and innovative strategies that strengthen Iowa’s food networks. Collaborative presentations are welcome, and there is no limit to the number of proposals an individual or group may submit.

Two session formats are available:

  • Bite‑Sized Sessions (15 minutes): A brief presentation focused on a successful program, project or research study.
  • Breakout Sessions (1 hour): A longer session designed to explore a project, research effort or initiative in more depth while engaging attendees through discussion or activities.

Proposal questions may be reviewed before submission, and all proposals are due by March 13, 2026.

The Iowa Farm and Food Conference remains a key event for anyone interested in strengthening Iowa’s local food system. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the conference encourages creative problem‑solving and supports long-term growth across all food sectors.
