Registration is now open for the highly anticipated 2024 Iowa Farm Bureau Economic Summit: Pressures and Opportunities, scheduled for June 14 at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny. This summit offers farmers a unique opportunity to gain insights from national experts on navigating the complexities of today's volatile farm economy.
Headlining the event is Dr. Austan Goolsbee, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, who will engage in a 'fireside chat' with IFBF President Brent Johnson, providing valuable insights into the U.S. macroeconomy. This session marks Dr. Goolsbee's first public appearance following the June Federal Open Market Committee meeting.
"With extreme weather, volatile market swings, and geopolitical factors at play, Iowa farmers face significant uncertainties," says Dr. Christopher Pudenz, IFBF economics and research manager. "Our goal is to equip farmers with the knowledge and strategies needed to navigate these challenges and seize opportunities for continued success."
Participants will also hear from Frank Kelly, founder and managing partner of Fulcrum Macro, who will discuss world macroeconomics and geopolitics impacting agriculture. Additional sessions include a meat panel featuring insights from a retailer, meat packer, and cattle feeder, updates on the U.S./Mexico trade situation, and discussions on crafting pre-harvest marketing plans to navigate grain market conditions.
The summit kicks off with a networking reception on June 13, followed by presentations and panels on June 14. Registration, which includes access to both days' events, is $40 for Farm Bureau members and $200 for non-members before May 31. Due to limited space, interested parties are encouraged to secure their spots early.
