Genetic Improvement and the Role of Animal Agriculture in a Sustainable World

Iowa Swine Day is set to bring together pork producers and industry experts to discuss the future of animal agriculture and the importance of genetic improvement. The event, hosted at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus in Ames on June 29, will feature keynote speakers who will shed light on sustainable pork production and food security.

Banks Baker, Global Director of Product Sustainability for PIC, will share insights on genetic advancements and their impact on pork production efficiency and animal welfare. Drawing from his experience in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing animal health policies at McDonald's USA, Baker will emphasize the holistic benefits of genetic improvements.

Jack Bobo, Director of Global Food and Water Policy at the Nature Conservancy, will offer his perspective on the future of food. He will explore consumer demand for sustainable food products, considering the effects of a growing population and changing demographics.

In addition to the keynote presentations, the event will feature concurrent sessions covering topics such as sustainable pork production, disease prevention, the future of pig farming, and the latest research from Iowa State University.

Registration for Iowa Swine Day is open until June 22, with a registration fee of $65. Students can attend at no charge. Attendees can also participate in a preconference networking social event.
