Dairy-beef crossbred cattle are becoming increasingly popular among producers. However, many are uncertain about how to manage these animals effectively.
Garland Dahlke, a research scientist with the Iowa Beef Center, will shed light on this topic at the upcoming Feedlot Forum 2025.
Dahlke will present research findings on the nutrition, health, and performance of dairy-beef crossbred calves. The study, conducted over the past 18 months, monitored feed intake, body weight, sickness, and carcass quality of these animals.
The increasing popularity of dairy-beef crossbreds is driven by their potential to reduce the upfront cost of feeder cattle. However, these animals can be more fragile and require specific management strategies. Dahlke's research aims to provide valuable insights into optimizing the care and feeding of dairy-beef crossbreds.
Feedlot Forum 2025, scheduled for January 14 in Sioux Center, will feature several presentations on various topics related to feedlot management.
The event offers an opportunity for producers to learn from experts and network with industry peers.
