Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has announced the appointment of Ann Torbert as the new regional director for Linn County.
She will officially begin her new role on March 2, returning to a county where she previously served and built strong community connections.
For the past five years, Torbert worked as the regional director in Dallas County. In that role, she supported the local extension council by ensuring compliance with legal requirements and managing important administrative responsibilities.
Her leadership helped maintain the smooth operation of extension programs while strengthening partnerships with extension specialists, volunteers, and council members.
One of her major contributions in Dallas County included helping to pilot a satellite meeting room. This effort expanded access to extension programming for the Perry community, especially after a major employer closure and a school shooting.
Her work played an important role in maintaining community access to educational resources during challenging times.
Before her work in Dallas County, Torbert served in Linn County as a 4-H youth program specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
During that time, she collaborated with local partners to secure funding and highlight the public value of extension services. Her experience in Linn County provides her with strong local knowledge that will support her return as regional director.
Her leadership has been recognized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach leadership. Andrea Welchans, assistant vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach, shared the following statement:
“Ann’s leadership style is grounded in servant leadership and high-impact work. She prioritizes people and builds trust, which will serve her well as a regional director in Linn County,” said Andrea Welchans, assistant vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach. “We congratulate Ann and welcome her back to the Linn County office of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.”
ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the federal Cooperative Extension Service. This nationwide network includes more than 100 land-grant institutions, such as Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The organization supports communities across the United States through educational programs and outreach services.
Every county in Iowa has an elected extension council that guides local programming and determines how extension services are delivered. With her experience and community-focused leadership, Ann Torbert is expected to play an important role in strengthening Linn County extension programs and continuing the mission of providing education and support to local residents.
