Women in ag leadership - Break new ground

By Andi Anderson

The 8th Annual Women in Agriculture Leadership Conference brings together women dedicated to advancing their agricultural careers, enhancing leadership skills, and connecting with others in the field. With the theme ‘Breaking Ground, Seeding Success,’ this two-day event provides an empowering space for women in farming, agribusiness, and agricultural organizations, along with students, to network and learn.

Our lineup includes insightful guest speakers and hosts who are open and accessible, encouraging attendees to engage and benefit from their expertise. The conference kicks off on Wednesday with a unique Red Cross certification course on First Aid, Life-Threatening Bleeding, and Tourniquet Application.

In addition, campus tours feature both new and favorite stops from previous years. One of the highlights is Iowa's own Lexi Marek Beeler, an advocate for women in agriculture. Lexi’s journey from farming to fostering business growth, combined with her infectious energy, promises to inspire.

Intensive workshops led by successful women in agriculture offer hands-on skill-building, aiming to empower attendees with practical knowledge. A relaxing dinner and social hour will cap off the day, providing a chance to recharge and connect.

Thursday brings an exciting session with Heather Malenshek of Land O’ Lakes, Inc., a Forbes-recognized marketing leader passionate about helping others achieve their potential. The 2024 Women Impacting Agriculture honorees—Chris Cornelius, Julie Kenney, Wendy Johnson, and Janette Smith—will also be celebrated for their remarkable contributions.

The luncheon panel will host finance leaders Angie Treptow and Karen Rawson, who will delve into the farm economy and their experiences in finance. Breakout sessions cover engaging topics, including entrepreneurship, family business transitions, emotional marketing, and leadership through communication. Closing the event is April Hemmes, whose 40-year farming career and commitment to agricultural leadership will inspire and uplift the audience with humor and passion.

The conference aims to leave each participant with a sense of empowerment, new connections, and valuable skills to support their leadership journey. A heartfelt thank you goes to all advisory committee members, speakers, sponsors, and attendees contributing to this meaningful event.
