Wheat Growers Get $933M in Disaster Support

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins has outlined her strategy and schedule for distributing nearly $21 billion in disaster relief funding to American farmers and ranchers. This assistance was authorized on December 21, 2024, and aims to support producers affected by various natural disasters and economic hardships.

The announcement follows the successful implementation of the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP), which allocated $10 billion in vital aid to farmers nationwide. As of Monday, over $7.3 billion has already been distributed through ECAP, with wheat growers receiving more than $933 million in support.

The National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) praised the USDA’s efforts and commitment to assisting producers swiftly. “NAWG appreciates Secretary Rollins and her USDA team's hard work in rolling out ECAP earlier this spring and for working hard to get the disaster assistance pieces rolled out. We understand the long hours that go into standing up any disaster program, and this one is no different," said Pat Clements, NAWG President. "Farmers from across the country have endured a host of natural disasters--in addition to economic challenges--and we appreciate the clear timeline for implementation.”

Further details on the funding plan and implementation schedule are available on the USDA’s official website.
