Watch for Fun Beef and Swine Quiz Bowl at Upcoming County Fairs

Watch for Fun Beef and Swine Quiz Bowl at Upcoming County Fairs

Youth in grades 4-12 have a thrilling opportunity to put their beef and swine knowledge to the test at the local Sioux, Lyon, Osceola, and O'Brien County Fairs. A fun quiz bowl awaits participants, encompassing animal breeds, meat cuts, feedstuffs, and livestock equipment, among other topics.

The quiz bowl, organized by ISU Extension and Outreach in Northwest Iowa, aims to highlight the hard work and knowledge of 4-H and FFA members. Cheryl Heronemus, the regional director, expressed, "County fairs are a platform for youth to learn and share their expertise," emphasizing the significance of this engaging event.

While this year focuses on beef and swine, plans are already in place to include other species next year. The quiz bowl is open to all youth who have completed 4th through 12th grade, regardless of their 4-H or FFA membership status. Furthermore, participation is free of charge.

Mark your calendars for the quiz bowl at each county fair:

• Sioux County Youth Fair: July 11, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

• Lyon County Fair: July 19, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

• Osceola County Fair: July 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

• O'Brien County Fair: July 26, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
