The Schleisman family, owners of M&M Farms in Calhoun County, Iowa, has been awarded the prestigious Good Farm Neighbor Award. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, presented the award during a special ceremony held at the family farm.
M&M Farms, established in 1997, is a diverse and multi-generational operation led by Mark and Melissa Schleisman. Their two sons, Matthew and Landon, along with daughter Brandy and her husband Colby, actively participate in the farm. The family also includes Mark's father, uncles, and dedicated farm employee Jacob.
With a 320-head cow-calf herd and the sale of approximately 34,000 hogs annually, the Schleismans contribute to Iowa's vibrant agricultural industry. They specialize in popcorn production, cultivating 1,700 acres of popcorn and popcorn seed each year. In addition, they grow corn, soybeans, small grains, and forage on their 3,200-acre farm.
The Schleisman family's commitment extends beyond their farming operation. They are actively involved in their community, serving on school boards, church councils, and agricultural organizations. Their dedication to environmental stewardship, including conservation practices and animal care, has earned them recognition and admiration.
The Good Farm Neighbor Award recognizes the Schleisman family's outstanding contributions to agriculture and their community. Their commitment to sustainable farming practices and their involvement in various organizations make them an exemplary model for others in the industry.
