At the upcoming Farm Progress Show, scheduled for August 27-29 in Boone, two new apps designed to identify insects and weeds will be unveiled.
Arti Singh, an associate professor in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University, has led a team of researchers in developing the InsectID app. This app is capable of identifying approximately 4,000 insect species, with a special focus on those found in Iowa. This advanced tool utilizes artificial intelligence to offer precise and rapid identification, allowing farmers to take timely action against pests.
In addition to the InsectID app, the team will also present a beta version of the WeedID app. This app is designed to help farmers accurately identify various weed species that threaten their crops. By using AI technology, the app simplifies the process of weed identification, making it easier for farmers to implement effective management strategies.
Both apps are part of a broader effort to bring cutting-edge digital tools to the agriculture industry. These tools not only help in the accurate identification of pests and weeds but also support farmers in making informed decisions about treatment options, ultimately leading to better crop protection and higher yields.
