The Choose Iowa Butchery, Innovation, and Revitalization Grant Program, administered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), offers up to $100,000 to enhance Iowa’s meat processing industry.

This initiative aims to drive innovation, job creation, and growth while supporting the state’s agricultural economy.

To qualify, businesses must meet specific criteria:

  • Hold or pursue an IDALS or USDA license.
  • Employ fewer than 75 full-time, non-seasonal staff.
  • Maintain a clean regulatory record for the past five years.

Eligible projects include expanding processing capacity, creating jobs, or upgrading infrastructure. Projects must be Iowa-based, initiated after grant approval, and completed within 12 months.

The application process requires a CIRAS Butchery Assessment to refine project plans. Submissions must be sent to Ben Drescher at CIRAS by February 21, 2025. Feedback will be provided by March 14, allowing applicants to finalize and submit their project plans by the March 31, 2025, deadline.

Key Dates:

  • January 8, 2025: CIRAS Assessment opens.
  • February 3, 2025: Grant applications open.
