Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, invites applications for the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) grant program until March 8, 2024. In collaboration with the USDA, Iowa plans to invest $5.2 million in fortifying the state's local food supply chain.
The RFSI initiative aims to strengthen the middle of the food supply chain by developing markets for Iowa's small farms and food businesses. By investing in local food processing, distribution, and aggregation infrastructure, the program aims to create new job opportunities across the state.
Grants, totaling $420 million nationwide, will support the distribution, processing, and packaging of fresh produce, grains, legumes, and value-added products. Iowa's RFSI plan focuses on Equipment-Only Grants, ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, and Infrastructure Grants, from $100,000 to $1 million. The program also emphasizes Supply Chain Coordination, aiming to improve logistics and build more resilient supply chains.
Applicants are encouraged to explore these opportunities and contribute to Iowa's vibrant food ecosystem. Strengthening the supply chain will support local farmers and businesses while offering consumers more choices. Apply by March 8 to be part of Iowa's resilient food future.
