Iowans have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge on various agricultural topics at Iowa State University’s Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm annual fall field day on August 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is designed to provide attendees with the latest updates in drone technology and trends for the upcoming harvest season.
The program will kick off with Doug Houser, a digital agriculture extension specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, who will present the most current information on drone and UAV technology and its applications in agriculture.
Following this, Alison Robertson, a professor and extension plant pathologist, will provide updates on crop diseases observed during the growing season and what farmers can expect going into the harvest.
Kapil Arora, an extension agricultural and biosystems engineering specialist, will share his expertise on tile drainage and water management.
“This year’s event will offer a diverse lineup of topics and speakers,” said Terry Basol, a field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Participants can enjoy a day of hands-on learning while networking with specialists and other farmers.”
The field day is free and open to the public. A complimentary lunch will be provided, sponsored by Kahn Tile Supply. To assist with meal preparation, attendees are encouraged to register by August 21 by emailing neira@iastate.edu.
The event will be held at the Borlaug Learning Center Headquarters on the research farm. Visitors coming from Nashua should take the junction of Highway 218 (Exit 220) and County Road B60, go west on B60 for 1.1 miles to Windfall Avenue, then south for 1 mile to 290th St., and finally east for 0.2 miles to the farm. Certified Crop Adviser credits will be available, including 1 SW continuing education unit.
