Four State Dairy Conference Webinar to Address Mycotoxin Solutions

Four State Dairy Conference Webinar to Address Mycotoxin Solutions

By Andi Anderson

The Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference webinar series will continue on Thursday, September 18, with a timely session addressing one of the most pressing challenges in dairy farming — mycotoxins.

Joe Pankowski will lead the presentation, titled “Mycotoxin Mitigation: A New Approach.” His session will explain how mycotoxins can develop not only in crops while growing in the field but also during harvest, storage, processing, or even feeding. These harmful compounds threaten both animal health and farm profitability.

Fred Hall, extension dairy specialist with Iowa State University, emphasized that the risk is especially significant in silage. “Ruminants are susceptible to the detrimental effects of mycotoxins in their diet, meaning herd production and performance and, ultimately, profitability could be taking a hit,” he noted.

The webinar will review research-backed strategies that producers and consultants can use to mitigate mycotoxin risks. Attendees will learn how to objectively evaluate available options and implement approaches that have been proven effective in both research and field settings.

Hall added that the process will help identify reliable, field-tested solutions to protect herd health and improve profitability. The session is designed to provide valuable insights not only for dairy producers but also for nutritionists, consultants, and industry professionals.

The live webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants must register online at least one hour before the start of the session to secure access.

By addressing mycotoxin threats with proven mitigation practices, the Four-State Dairy Conference continues its mission of supporting dairy producers with the latest research and practical tools for long-term success.
