Congressman Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) will join Power Up Iowa for a visit to Storm Lake's Buena Vista University (BVU) in his home district from 9 to 10 a.m. July 6. BVU's applied studies program prepares students for careers in the fields of agriculture and renewable energy.
Northwestern Iowa is home to the majority of the wind farms in the Hawkeye State, with further potential for growth on the horizon. The State of Iowa currently ranks 1st in the nation for renewable energy with 58% of electricity coming from wind, solar, and energy storage projects. The percentage of energy produced from renewable sources will continue to grow as more clean power projects are brought online throughout Iowa in the coming years.
Renewable power generation supports 5,200 jobs across the state. Wind turbine technicians and solar installers are two of the fastest-growing careers in the country, requiring only a two-year degree offered by several universities and community colleges across the state, including BVU.
Feenstra will be joined by BVU President Dr. Brian Lenzmeier along with Director of Agriculture Rich Crow and Dean of Science Thom Bongura for a discussion on how the program helps to grow the next generation of leaders in the industry.
