The deadline for nominations for the 2023 Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award has been extended to May 15, 2023. This prestigious award recognizes farmers and landowners who are dedicated to conservation practices and environmental stewardship, and who serve as leaders in the agriculture community.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must demonstrate a commitment to conservation practices such as cover crops, wetlands, and best management practices that improve and protect Iowa's natural resources. The selected recipients will be honored at a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair in August 2023, where they will be recognized by Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, and Department of Natural Resources Director Kayla Lyon.
Since its inception in 2012, the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award has recognized 738 farm families for their outstanding contributions to sustainable agriculture. The nomination form and a list of previous awardees can be found on the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship's website.
By recognizing farmers who prioritize conservation and environmental stewardship, the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award inspires others to adopt similar practices, contributing to a more sustainable future for Iowa agriculture. The extension of the nomination deadline provides an opportunity for more farmers and landowners to be recognized for their commitment to these essential principles.
