The USDA Farm Service Agency has reappointed Craig McCain as the State Executive Director (SED) for Louisiana. McCain resumed his leadership on May 5, 2025, bringing decades of agricultural service experience back to the role.
McCain began his journey with FSA in 1986 as a county operations trainee. Over the years, he served as a county executive director and district director before first taking on the SED role during President earlier term.
Raised on his family’s cotton and cattle farm in Franklin Parish, McCain’s deep-rooted ties to Louisiana agriculture shape his leadership.
As SED, he will oversee the delivery of essential USDA programs across Louisiana. These include disaster assistance, conservation support, credit programs, and commodity services, all aimed at strengthening local agriculture.
FSA Administrator Bill Beam emphasized the importance of these roles -
“FSA State Executive Directors serve in a critical role carrying out USDA’s mission at the state level — ensuring that our focus is on meeting the needs of local agricultural producers by putting farmers and ranchers first.”;
McCain’s appointment is part of a broader USDA initiative to realign federal efforts with community needs, especially in rural areas.
The FSA’s mission includes aiding farmers with disaster recovery, ensuring access to operating loans, and conserving farmland for future generations.
The FSA operates through a robust network of local offices, helping farmers and landowners access programs that support food security and agricultural productivity.
