Iowa Ag Connection - 09/15/2023

Building on the resounding success of its inaugural event in 2021, the Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) proudly announces the second IPIC Sow Summit, scheduled for November 1 in Ames.

This one-day conference will feature the latest research poised to enhance sow farm productivity while offering attendees an opportunity to explore and engage in discussions on emerging topics that have a significant impact on sow farms.

The morning plenary session is set to kick off with three enlightening "big picture" talks, followed by a panel discussion that centers on labor and staffing within the farming sector. Here are the featured morning speakers and their topics:

• Dr. Rob Knox (University of Illinois): Exploring sow farm opportunities, both past and future.

• Dr. Bradley Wolter (Windy Hill Insights): Delving into the bio-economic considerations essential for a sustainable herd.

• Chad Bermel (Brenneman Pork): Sharing experiences and insights from the transition to a Prop12-compliant system.

The morning session will conclude with a compelling discussion on labor and staffing challenges on the farm. The panelists for this engaging dialogue include:

• Chet Mogler (Partner, Pig Hill Co.)

• Victor Ochoa (Director, Swineworks LLC)

• Silvia Castañeda (Director of Human Resources, Eichelberger Farms)

Following lunch, attendees will have the opportunity to select from a range of individual presentations spanning both research and applied sessions. These presentations will feature esteemed experts from the industry and academia, representing state, national, and international perspectives.
