Wallace Foundation Hosts Annual Program at Armstrong Farm

By Andi Anderson

The Wallace Foundation will host its annual educational program and business meeting on March 6 at the Armstrong Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm in Lewis. The event is open to the public and is designed to provide farmers and community members with valuable information on nitrogen management and current agricultural research.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a welcome address from Mark Bentley, president of the Wallace Foundation. The morning session, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, will include presentations from two Iowa State University experts who specialize in nitrogen usage and its impact on Iowa agriculture.

Matt Helmers, professor and director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center (INRC), will present research findings on nitrates and what the center has observed across the state.

Melissa Miller, project director of the INRC, will then discuss strategies for managing nitrogen applications for maximum efficiency and financial return. She will also share results from recent field trials that highlight new insights into nitrogen management practices.

The Wallace Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting research that benefits farmers in Southwest Iowa. The group is currently seeking new members who are interested in contributing to the direction of future research efforts.

The foundation’s annual business meeting will begin at 1 p.m., following the educational program.

Attendance is free, and lunch will be provided by Downtowner Cafe and Catering. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by March 2 to ensure accurate planning for meals and space.

To register, attendees may email farm superintendent Matt Groves at mjgroves@iastate.edu or call 712-769-2402.

The meeting and program will be held at the Wallace Foundation Learning and Outreach Center, located at 53020 Hitchcock Avenue, Lewis. For additional information, individuals may contact Aaron Saeugling at 712-254-0082 or clonz5@iastate.edu.

The event offers farmers and community members a valuable opportunity to learn from experts, stay informed on nitrogen management trends, and engage with an organization committed to supporting agriculture in Southwest Iowa.
