Southeast Iowa Ag Meeting Brings Key Insights

Southeast Iowa Ag Meeting Brings Key Insights

By Andi Anderson

The Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association will hold its annual meeting on March 6 at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm in Crawfordsville.

Farmers and agricultural advisors are encouraged to attend and participate in discussions on key farming topics. The association collaborates with Iowa State University to oversee the farm’s research efforts.

The meeting will feature expert presentations on various agricultural topics. Ann Johanns, an extension program specialist, will discuss how to maximize the Ag Decision Maker website.

Mark Licht, an extension cropping systems specialist, will provide insights on managing corn following corn. Richard Roth, an extension nitrogen specialist, will offer guidance on setting up meaningful field trials for farming operations.

Cody Schneider, the farm superintendent, will present local research farm updates. Iowa State University representatives, including research farms manager Tim Goode and associate dean Kendall Lamkey, will share campus updates.

The event begins with registration and refreshments at 9:30 a.m., followed by the official meeting at 10 a.m. The program concludes at 3 p.m., after which the Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association board of directors will meet.

Lunch will be provided, free for association members and $10 for non-members. Farmers interested in joining the association can pay a $25 membership fee, valid for five years, either in advance or at the event.

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register online by March 1 or call the Johnson County office at 319-337-2145. While registration is not mandatory, it helps organizers plan for lunch.

Sponsors, including Furlong Family Farms, Lee Agency, and Hills Bank and Trust, have contributed to supporting this event. Certified Crop Advisors attending the meeting can earn Continuing Education Units.
