NICC Dairy Center Hosts Haying Demo Field Day Event

NICC Dairy Center Hosts Haying Demo Field Day Event

By Andi Anderson

A haying equipment demonstration day will take place on June 23 at the NICC Dairy Center, located at 1527 Highway 150 in Calmar, Iowa. This informative event is being organized by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach in partnership with Northeast Iowa Community College.

The event is designed to help hay producers explore a variety of haying equipment options. Demonstrations will be provided throughout the day by industry representatives from northeast Iowa, giving participants a chance to see modern hay tools in action.

Sessions begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 4 p.m. One of the highlights of the event will be a general session led by ISU forage specialist Shelby Gruss during a free lunch. This session will focus on important topics such as forage selection, fertilization, and harvesting techniques.

Field agronomists and beef specialists from ISU Extension will be available throughout the program to answer production-related questions and provide useful insights for farmers.

Josh Michel, an ISU field agronomist, emphasized the importance of this hands-on event. “We are excited to create an opportunity for interactive learning between Iowa State University and Northeast Iowa Community College,” he said. “The event will also facilitate some interaction between producers and industry representatives, which should benefit everyone.”

All interested hay producers and students are encouraged to attend. While on-site registration will be available on the day of the event, preregistration is strongly recommended by June 20 to help with planning.

This event offers a valuable learning opportunity for anyone involved in hay production, combining expert advice, real-time demonstrations, and a chance to connect with fellow producers and industry experts.
