Medgene Granted USDA License for Innovative Platform Vaccines in Pork Industry

The USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) has granted animal health company Medgene a second license to produce and market a groundbreaking portfolio of USDA-approved Platform Vaccines tailored to the pork industry. These vaccines target diseases such as Rotavirus, Porcine Circovirus, Influenza A, and Sapovirus, offering effective solutions for pork producers nationwide.

Medgene's vaccine approach leverages a USDA-approved "platform technology" that is safe and highly adaptable to multiple animal disease targets. This cutting-edge technology enables Medgene to develop vaccines more rapidly and gain valuable insights into the transmission of diseases across different species and geographical regions, surpassing the time-consuming methods employed by traditional vaccine development.

Dr. Clayton Johnson, Director of Veterinary Services for Carthage Veterinary Service, LTD, commended Medgene's Platform Vaccines, affirming that they enable the maintenance of the highest standards of animal health within the industry.

The announcement of Medgene's licensure was made on June 8 at the World Pork Expo, held at the Iowa State Fair fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. Mark Luecke, CEO of Medgene, emphasized the pivotal role of the pork industry in ensuring our nation's food supply and highlighted Medgene's longstanding efforts to provide pork industry veterinarians with the transformative benefits of Platform technology. Now, with the license in hand, Medgene can harness the safety, speed, and value of this groundbreaking technology to propel the industry forward.

Medgene's vaccines for Rotavirus, Porcine Circovirus, Influenza A, and Sapovirus are now available to licensed veterinarians, offering them a powerful tool to safeguard the health and well-being of their swine populations. These vaccines represent a significant step forward in addressing key disease challenges faced by pork producers, ultimately bolstering the industry and ensuring a sustainable supply of high-quality pork products.
