On August 23, Iowa State University's McNay Memorial Research Farm will host its annual field day, welcoming the public for an informative program. The event, located southwest of Chariton, is free to attend.
Kicking off the program will be a research farm update presented by Logan Wallace, farm co-manager. Attendees can look forward to a range of topics and expert speakers:
• Randie Culbertson, ISU Extension and Outreach cow-calf specialist, will share Iowa Beef Center updates.
• Beth Reynolds, ISU animal science program specialist, will present findings from SmartFeed system studies.
• Garland Dahlke, ISU animal science research scientist, will discuss swath grazing.
• Velvet Buckingham and Brian DeMoss, Iowa NRCS environmental specialists, will provide a Rathbun Watershed update, project funding, and programs.
• Mike Witt, extension field agronomist, will enlighten the audience on 60-inch corn with interseeded cover crops.
• Chris Clark, extension beef specialist, and Clarabell Probasco, extension field agronomist, will deliver a fall forage and crop update.
Clarabell Probasco emphasizes the wide range of topics, offering valuable insights to both crop and livestock producers. The field day presents the latest research-based information and future outlooks for fall cropping and forage.
Growers can also take advantage of corn nitrate testing at the conclusion of the field day. Bringing in two or three sample plants from their field, they can have them checked for further analysis.
Registration starts at 3:30 p.m., and the program commences at 4:00 p.m. Attendees will be treated to a complimentary ribeye steak sandwich meal during the event. The McNay Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm is situated at 45249 170th Avenue, Chariton, with clear signage posted to guide visitors.
