Iowa State Leads Consortium to Build Trust in Pork Industry

Iowa State Leads Consortium to Build Trust in Pork Industry

Iowa State University has taken on a leadership role in a new five-year initiative aimed at building trust between pork producers and consumers. The National Pork Board has partnered with five universities, with Iowa State leading the consortium.

The Real Pork Trust Consortium focuses on three key areas to foster consumer trust:

1. Conducting research to address consumer questions about pork and pork production.

2. Communicating research findings in a relatable and understandable manner for consumers to make informed decisions.

3. Training individuals from diverse backgrounds to provide accurate information about the pork industry based on research.

Bob Ruth, President of the National Pork Board, emphasized the importance of engaging with consumers and collaborating with universities to develop effective approaches. Iowa State's Professor Nicholas Gabler will serve as the lead investigator for the consortium.

By bringing together leading experts from multiple universities, including the University of Georgia, North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T, and the University of Minnesota, the consortium aims to enhance knowledge and confidence in pork production, nutritional value, and the industry's contributions to society.

This initiative aligns with Iowa State's commitment to transparency and education in the agricultural sector and supports their new undergraduate major in agricultural communication.
