Iowa Pork Youth Leadership Team 2024 - Empowering Future Ag Leaders

By Andi Anderson

The 2024 Iowa Pork Youth Leadership Team is a force to be reckoned with, representing the future of Iowa’s pork industry. Let’s meet the outstanding individuals who will drive positive change:

  • Lilly Bru:

Hailing from Gladbrook, Lilly Bru wears the crown as this year’s Iowa Pork Queen. Her senior year at Green Mountain-Garwin Secondary School in Garwin has been marked by leadership. As president of her FFA chapter and a member of 4-H, she embodies dedication to agriculture. Lilly’s journey continues as she pursues agribusiness studies at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny.

  • Abby Elsamiller:

Abby Elsamiller, a senior from Waverly in Bremer County, is a force of nature. As the Bremer County Pork Queen, she combines her passion for education with her love for purebred Berkshire pigs. Abby raises these pigs for show and sale. After graduation, she plans to pursue an elementary education degree at Iowa State University in Ames.

  • Aubrey Johnson:

Aubrey Johnson, a senior from Iowa Falls in Hardin County, brings her unwavering commitment to the team. Serving in various officer positions for her FFA chapter and 4-H club, Aubrey embodies leadership. Her dedication to Iowa Falls-Alden High School and the pork industry is commendable.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) sponsors this prestigious contest. Participants undergo rigorous evaluation, including presentations, interviews, and a written test on pork industry topics. Their community involvement and experience play a crucial role in the selection process. While Lilly Bru reigns as queen, Abby Elsamiller and Aubrey Johnson serve as Iowa Pork Ambassadors. Each receives a $4,000 scholarship and a well-deserved plaque.

Even those who didn’t clinch the top spots receive recognition. Riley Troendle (Lansing), Miranda Rickels (Lost Nation), Ella Cole (Manchester), Ashlee Tomlinson (Norwalk), and Hannah Tice (Story City) each earn a $200 scholarship.

Throughout 2024, the IPPA Youth Leadership Team will actively engage in public activities. From county events across Iowa to the World Pork Expo and Iowa State Fair, they’ll champion pork production and education. Past team members cherish the connections forged with industry advocates and the invaluable growth opportunities these positions provide.
