The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) reaffirms its commitment to addressing food insecurity with the continuation of the Pork in the Pantry program. This initiative aims to support local food pantries across Iowa by reimbursing county pork producer organizations for their generous pork donations, fostering community well-being.
Program Highlights:
- Financial Support: IPPA will reimburse county pork producer organizations up to $1,000 for pork products donated to food pantries in their respective counties.
- Duration: The program runs through April 19, allowing flexibility for either one large donation or multiple smaller donations.
- Community Impact: Last year's program totaled nearly $40,000 statewide, contributing over 50,000 meals for underprivileged Iowans.
Matt Gent, IPPA President and pig farmer from Wellman, emphasizes the essential role of food pantries in supporting those facing hardship. He states, “We understand the vital role that food pantries play in providing sustenance to those experiencing hardship, and we are proud to extend our support to these essential organizations.”
The financial assistance provided by IPPA, in collaboration with county pork producer organizations, empowers local food pantries to enhance their resources, broaden their outreach, and better serve individuals and families in need. Participating in the program allows counties to purchase and donate pork products, with IPPA reimbursing up to $1,000.
Last year's initiative saw 40 county pork producer organizations collaborating with IPPA, resulting in significant statewide impact. The funds contributed to the program supported local food pantries, with many groups sourcing pork from nearby processors and grocery stores, thereby benefiting their communities economically.
Any county pork producer organization in Iowa can participate in Pork in the Pantry, contributing to the fight against food insecurity and reinforcing the spirit of community support. The deadline for submission of request forms is April 26, empowering counties to make a meaningful impact in the coming months.
