By Andi Anderson

Don't miss your chance to enhance your crop management expertise at the 34th Integrated Crop Management (ICM) Conference hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This essential event will take place on December 4-5 at the modern Meadows Events Center in Altoona, IA, providing attendees with a fantastic venue and easy access via I-80 and I-35.

The ICM Conference is your gateway to the latest information, research updates, and tools necessary to prepare for a successful 2024 in the world of crop production. With 35 workshops available, including 7 from distinguished invited speakers, you'll gain invaluable insights into various aspects of crop management.

One highlight of the conference is a special panel discussion focusing on updates related to the EPA's Endangered Species Act and pesticide regulations. With experts like Doug Jones from the US Environmental Protection Agency, you'll have the opportunity to get your questions answered and stay ahead of changes affecting pesticide labels.

Invited speakers at this year's ICM Conference cover a range of critical topics:

  • Doug Jones (EPA) updates on the Endangered Species Act and pesticide efforts.
  • Dennis Bowman (University of Illinois) on the transformative role of drones in agriculture.
  • Daniel Kaiser (University of Minnesota) provides insights into iron deficiency chlorosis in soybeans.
  • Alex Lindsey (Ohio State University) explores how early planting dates impact crop stands.
  • Brian McCornack (Kansas State University) discusses an insect pest on the move.
  • Dan Quinn (Purdue University) delves into the effects of wildfire smoke and heat stress on corn.
  • Aaron Hager (University of Illinois) prepares you for improved weed control in 2024.

Additional conference topics cover a wide range of subjects, from weather and crop market outlooks to equipment and technology management, climate resilience, soil moisture status, conservation practices, farmland values, and updates on weed and crop disease management.

For those seeking professional development, the ICM Conference is approved for up to 14 continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisers and Iowa commercial pesticide applicator continuing education credits in categories 1A, 1B, 1C, and 4 for 2023.

Register before November 17 to benefit from a $50 discount on registration fees. The late registration deadline is November 27. If you have any registration questions, feel free to contact ANR Program Services at anr@iastate.edu or 515-294-6429.
