Professionals involved in pest management and natural resource protection will have an opportunity to strengthen their expertise through the Forest, Aquatic and Right-of-Way Pest Control Continuing Instruction Course. The educational program is scheduled for October 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., at the Grundy County Extension Office in Grundy Center, Iowa.
The course is designed to provide continuing education for individuals working in pest management, environmental stewardship, and land maintenance. As pests can affect forests, waterways, roadways, utility corridors, and public lands, ongoing training is essential to ensure effective and responsible management practices.
Participants will gain exposure to important topics related to pest identification, monitoring, prevention, and control methods. Educational programs such as this help professionals stay informed about current management strategies while maintaining a strong focus on environmental protection and public safety.
Forest pest management remains an important priority because insects, diseases, and invasive species can threaten tree health and reduce forest productivity. Proper management practices help preserve natural resources, support biodiversity, and maintain healthy ecosystems. Training programs provide professionals with updated information on identifying potential threats and implementing appropriate solutions.
Aquatic pest control is another key focus area. Invasive aquatic species and undesirable vegetation can affect water quality, recreational opportunities, and ecosystem balance. Participants can enhance their understanding of management practices that protect lakes, ponds, streams, and other water resources while minimizing environmental impacts.
The course also addresses right-of-way pest control, an essential component of maintaining transportation corridors, utility infrastructure, and public access areas. Effective vegetation and pest management in these locations helps improve safety, preserve infrastructure functionality, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Continuing instruction courses play a valuable role in supporting professional development. They allow participants to refresh existing knowledge, learn about emerging challenges, and stay current with best management practices. Ongoing education also contributes to more effective decision-making and improved outcomes for communities, landowners, and natural resource managers.
In addition to technical knowledge, such programs encourage the responsible use of pest management tools and reinforce the importance of balancing operational needs with environmental stewardship. By promoting science-based approaches, educational courses help strengthen sustainable resource management efforts.
Individuals interested in attending or learning more about the event may contact Ashley Bruene, Program Coordinator, at (319) 824-6979. The training offers a valuable opportunity for professionals to expand their knowledge and enhance their ability to manage pests across forested areas, aquatic environments, and right-of-way landscapes effectively and responsibly.
