Musical Production Kit from 'Water Rocks!' Available to Schools, Community Groups

Water Rocks!, the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach youth water education program, has released its royalty-free staging and production kit for “Water Rocks!: The Musical,” an innovative teaching tool that premiered in June 2022.

Telling the story of four quirky students who are given an amazing chance to become water and explore the world, the show takes the audience on a whirlwind tour of all things water, in which they discover water’s origin story, its transformations and its connection to humans.

Water Rocks! actors.“One of our primary goals with this project was to deliver a comprehensive package that would allow nearly any school or community group to produce this show and help to spread science-based information about water and water quality to audiences in a fun and entertaining way,” said Jacqueline Comito, co-producer and Water Rocks! executive director. “While staging the 2022 performances, we paid particular attention to how and why things were done and made note of many hints and tricks that would facilitate others in achieving the same success we did.”

In addition to traditional scripts and scores, the production kit provides resources and guidance from stage lighting and audio tracks, to graphic design templates and ideas for promoting performances. The production kit is available to schools and community organizations under royalty-free license from Iowa State.

“We believe we have covered all the bases for schools and community organizations interested in staging this action-packed show that is ideal for middle school and high school age performers,” continued Comito. “But, if a group has a question or challenge, we are always eager to help.”
